AEW Star Kenny Omega Teases Yakuza Debut In Like a Dragon 8

Now that the future of Sega’s Yakuza series is clear, as both Like a Dragon: Ishin and Like a Dragon 8 have been revealed, it looks like Kenny Omega, wrestling’s ‘best bout machine’, may be the next big name in the franchise. could be.

With this year’s Tokyo Game Show in full swing, many of the biggest local publishers have started revealing what fans around the world have in store.

One of the key players was Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio), which held its own showcase event in 2022 under Sega on September 14 – an event that involved Kenny Omega in advertising.

During the show, Like a Dragon 8 was announced, the next installment in the mega-popular Yakuza series. While sticking to the recent RPG combat systems, this entry is set to blend the past and the present as newcomer Ichiban Kasuga was featured in the reveal trailer alongside former protagonist Kazuma Kiryu.

With fans eagerly anticipating the crossover, it looks like the duo could encounter another fighting legend on their travels. None other than former New Japan sensation turned AEW star Kenny Omega teased an appearance in the upcoming title.

While off television due to his suspension for All Out’s backstage ‘melee’, Omega has traveled to Japan for a few reasons. After reunion with his Golden Lover Kota Ibushi, he planned to attend the Tokyo Game Show to promote AEW Fight Forever, the company’s first major project.

However, before starting the work side of the journey, he stopped by Sega Studios to have some fun. “Thank you Sega for the great tour and for creating a character model of me in the Yakuza engine,” Omega shared on Instagram.

Kenny Omega could have his own side mission in the next Yakuza title.

In the attached photos, we see Omega in front of a facial capture installation, scanning its appearance to implement them in a particular game. While the exact title was kept a secret, it makes sense to see The Cleaner in the next Yakuza.

From Keiji Mutoh and Masahiro Chono serving as rivals in Yakuza: Kiwami 2, to current NJPW headliners Kazuchika Okada and Tetsuya Naito crashing into Yakuza 6, the series has often crossed over with local wrestling stars. Now it looks like the developers are eager to add another legend to the mix with the addition of Omega.

While he hasn’t really wrestled in Japan since AEW’s inception, he nevertheless remains one of the most popular names in the region today. So it would make perfect sense to see him involved in the Yakuza series, and with Like a Dragon 8 coming up next, it’s a safe bet we won’t have long to wait. Omega could even provide both the Japanese and English voice lines itself.
