Mad Maggie has been in Apex Legends for almost a full season now and she hasn’t exactly been a star in the meta. A few disgruntled players have highlighted her tactical as the primary reason.
Since he hit the battlefield at the start of Season 12, Mad Maggie’s speed of choice has fluctuated quite a bit. She showed promise early on at release, but in the days since, she’s dropped to just 2.5% of all games.
While some fancier ideas have been floating around all season, there’s no consensus on what needs to change.
Things may be different now, though, as a player has solid evidence that her tactics are at the root of what’s wrong with the Rebel Warlord in general.
Apex players ask for fixes for Mad Maggie
As shown in the video below, Maggie’s tactic is assumed to deal 160 damage to any target in range for its duration.
While that number is true on first use, successive castings of the skill show a significant drop in effectiveness, bringing total damage to 128.
This may not seem like a big deal at first, but for a legend already struggling to keep up with the competition, a bug like this could be a major roadblock.
One user pointed out that its tactical value is preserved by letting players move, but that’s just not enough to make it worth using.
“I’ve always seen her practice as a way of pulling someone out of hiding or influencing their movement options rather than doing significant damage, yet ideally the damage should be consistent.”
Another player commented that the drill has trouble getting through some walls, further degrading its effectiveness: “If there are multiple layers in the wall that you shoot at, it doesn’t always penetrate all the way through and gets stuck somewhere in the middle .”
There’s no telling if Respawn will give Maggie a second time in Season 13, but it’s safe to say she won’t see too much action otherwise.
