A bizarre Overwatch bug transports heroes from maps to their demise, but it may not be the first iteration of the bug we’ve seen in the game.
Bugs are very common in Overwatch and have been around since day one. This includes the one that transports D.Va or Tracer to random, remote corners of the map.
Now a new version of this glitch seems to have appeared, apparently affecting Reaper’s teleport when used by Echo.
Reddit user snieprsqanza posted a video of the glitch in action on the Overwatch subreddit on July 26. Everything seems to be going well until they try Shadowstep with an Echo copy of Reaper.
Instead of reaching their intended goal, they appear at the very edge of the map, a hilarious distance from the actual playing area.
Even with Echo’s ability to fly, she is unable to come back and falls to her doom. While funny and probably annoying to the player, the good news is that it probably won’t happen to you. This is because it has to be timed perfectly with Reaper’s Shadowstep taking place just as Echo returns to her base form.
This confuses the game, so it sends the player to the origin of the map instead, just like we see with D.Va with the bug that launches her into orbit when she demechs.
It’s definitely a humorous interaction, but we wouldn’t really call it “game-breaking” because you can just respawn and get right back into the fight.
Unless you’re fighting on point in overtime, but the chances of you being able to time the skill perfectly while this is also going on at the end of a match is pretty slim. So it probably isn’t high on the developer priority list, especially with Overwatch 2 on the horizon.
