A crazy FPS glitch has been making the rounds in Overwatch 2 as players have discovered a way to fuel up both teams while in Junkertown. Here’s how it works and what to look for on the map.
It’s safe to say that Overwatch 2’s launch wasn’t quite ideal for fans or Blizzard alike. From catastrophic server issues to a slew of in-game bugs, it’s been a rough few days since launch.
As developers try to keep up and even take out heroes at certain points due to more serious issues, the problems just keep piling up. Now, a map-specific bug has cropped up with Junkertown causing headaches far and wide for players.
In the Attacker spawn, there is a random piece of scrap in the environment. By simply firing at this object, players can instantly overwhelm the lobby and cause frame rates to drop significantly for everyone in the match.
In an instant, even those on high-end gaming rigs with the most powerful hardware will see their precious FPS drop quickly no matter where they are on the map. While this exploit affects both teams, it is only the attacking side who can choose when to use the buggy object.
So, with the right timing and some coordination from your squad, you can overwhelm the enemy defenses in the first phase of Junkertown by diving at them as their frames struggle to keep up with the action.
That’s exactly what Aussie pro cuFFa did in a ranked game on Oct. 18, using the exploit to his advantage to help win the first team fight. Shooting the object with Zarya’s constant beam only dropped the FPS on his side from 300+ to 90. If enemies were on less advanced rigs, chances are their game almost turned into a slideshow from their perspective.
In just seconds, Widowmaker landed a shot and defenders were immediately at a disadvantage due to the glitch.
For now, Blizzard has yet to tackle this, so be careful as you enter Junkertown in the coming days. There’s a good chance we’ll see the map removed from the ranking rotation, but we’ll be sure to update you on the latest developments here.
