Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley has been a hit for Infinity Ward since his introduction to the franchise and now it seems the studio is interested in giving him his own MW2 spin-off.

The history of Ghost in Call of Duty is extensive. The masked marauder first debuted in Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and has kept fans intrigued by both his iconic look and unique attitude for over a decade.

Its spotlight has only grown bigger since the latest game’s release, and it looks like Infinity Ward could be ready to strike while the iron is hot, offering the prequel story many have hoped for since he came in as member of the original task. Force 141.

Ghost may get a spin-off campaign after MW2

The report comes from insider RalphsValve who claims that the IW development team has been interested in this idea since the game’s release and now could be the time for it to become more than just an idea.

“Speaking to a staff member, Modern Warfare 2’s second DLC expansion will expand the campaign’s story with an intimate, episodic look behind Call of Duty’s more established characters, factions and new blood,” they said. “Infinity Ward’s approach to single player content for 2023 was compared to Supermassive Games’ anthological series ‘The Dark Pictures’.”

As suggested above, if this happens, it could be part of MW2’s continuation into year two. There’s still no word on what that will officially look like, but it certainly won’t be long before Activision starts telling fans about the next leg of their journey.
