Doom Classic Gets Raytracing Support Via “Doom: Ray Traced” Mod

Let’s hear about an all-time favorite classic being revived with Raytracing via GeForce RTX graphics card. Unlike the Quake RTX, this mod was released without any official support from NVIDIA or ID Software. It is designed so that it can only work with the GeForce RTX graphics cards with no possible plans for Radeon or Intel GPUs.

The mod is called the “PrBoom: Ray Traced” and can be downloaded from Github. And like all other games, this downloaded version will of course not be the full game. Those looking for the full game will of course have to buy the game and then put the Doom.wad file directly into the mod.

In terms of performance, the mod seems to be quite resource hungry. When retracing is enabled, the frame rate automatically drops from 5000 FPS to 239 FPS on an RTX 3090 system. According to the developers, the mod will also expand support for the DLSS as an option.
