Fortnite is back on iOS and Android!!!

Today we have exciting news for Fortnite fans. Fortnite is now free to play on Apple or Android using Xbox cloud gaming. Microsoft has teamed up with Epic Games to make this dream come true once again for gaming enthusiasts. Giving people the chance to play Fortnite for free through Xbox’s Cloud Gaming service will see the game make a huge comeback on both Android and iOS devices. We can all remember how heartbreaking it was when the game disappeared from the Play Store and App Store due to a royalty dispute regarding in-game payments.

While we all know that Fortnite is a free game, it still makes a lot of money through real money trading. Players tend to exchange money for in-game V-bucks which they can then spend on numerous items. This easily generates billions of dollars a year.

“We’re starting with Fortnite and will try to bring more free-to-play games that people love in the future. At Xbox, we want to make gaming accessible to the 3 billion players around the world, and cloud plays an important role in that mission. We just want you to have more choice in both the games you play and the way you play them.”

Epic Games was aware of a royalty payment dispute with Apple and Google. We’re talking a 30% royalty on both iOS and Android. As a result, Epic Games decided to make an update to the app that would allow instant payments. This enabled them to circumvent the royalties agreed with Apple and Google. As a result, the app was blocked from further updates in both the Play Store and the App Store. This eventually resulted in a full-blown legal battle.

Using this latest initiative with Microsoft, the Xbox Cloud Gaming service will make Fortnite available on devices that support the browser in 26 countries. There are no hidden costs and no membership requirements to play the game.
