The first pictures of the GoodRAM IRDM Ultimate PCIe Gen 5 M.2 NVMe SSD have been posted on the internet. This M.2-2580 solid state drive combines Phison’s upcoming E26 controller with what we think is KIOXIA 162 layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory.
This controller uses the PCI-Express 5.0 x4 interface, the NVMe 2.0 protocol, and offers read and write speeds of approximately 10 GB/s and 9.5 GB/s, respectively. The drive comes in capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB.
The heatsink that comes with the drive is quite large and has a pretty cool design. AMD’s AM5 platform will be the first with CPU-connected PCIe Gen 5 M.2 slots, launching in late September. We should see the first PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSD by November.
