Apex Legends is one of the most popular battle royale games out there, but have you ever wondered how many people will be playing Apex Legends in 2022? Now available on almost every platform and with cross-play, the player base continues to grow.

Despite Respawn’s timid expectations, Apex Legends player count reached 1 million within the first 24 hours of its release on February 4, 2019.

Then, by the end of the first week, it had reached 25 million players, and then 50 million in the first month. This was an incredible achievement for a game that launched out of the blue, with no pre-release marketing.

Referring to the launch of Apex Legends as the “Beyoncé drop”, Respawn’s Battle Royale was released without any heavy prior marketing. They also used Twitch streamers and YouTubers to promote the game, rather than the traditional means.

But how many people are playing Apex Legends now, almost three years later?

Despite Apex Legends being out for over 2 years, it continues to attract new players.

About 130 million players fell into Apex Legends during their lifetime.

On April 14, 2021, Respawn announced that Apex Legends has struck 100 million players in total. This will have been amplified in large part thanks to the game’s release on Steam and Nintendo Switch.

In In EA’s earnings call in February, the publisher said monthly active players in Apex were “up more than 30% year-over-year in the third quarter.”

“With more than 28 million new players joining in the past year and new seasons and in-game events continuing to deliver new experiences to a highly engaged community, FY 2022 is the biggest year yet for Apex.

While the exact number has not been revealed, we can at least assume that approximately 130 million players have played the game since then.

As Apex’s character count continues to grow, so does its lifetime player stat.

EA has revealed that Season 10 (and Season 9 before that) has been a huge success. Although the publisher declined to offer concrete player numbers, the game’s popularity on Twitch jumped to 130 million hours during season 10.

During an income call (transcript here via, EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson said: “It is [Apex Legends] was one of the most watched titles on Twitch during the quarter with over 130 million hours of Season 10 content viewed to date, an increase of nearly 40% from the previous season.

On August 4, 2021, EA announced that: Apex Legends has an average of 13 million active players per week† Season 9 also set a new record for peak daily players across all seasons.

In their latest earnings call in February 2022, EA said that Apex Legends had 30% year-over-year growth in new players for the second year in a row. And Apex Legends is sure to get another massive boost in players in 2022, thanks to its planned mobile launch gaining momentum and anticipation.

As for the number of live players from Apex, the only platform that reveals accurate stats is Steam, accessible through their API. Apex Legends launched on Steam in November 2020 and its player base has been steadily growing ever since. It hit new highs with the launch of Season 9, peaking at 330,879 players (on Steam), closely followed by 330,476 for Season 10.

On February 9, the day after Season 12 launched, Apex hit a new peak player count on Steam of 392,668, according to SteamDB statistics.

Apex reached nearly 400,000 concurrent players on Steam after the Season 12 launch.

According to the same site, the number of Apex players has managed to stay at a healthy average of 122,000 per day.

Meanwhile, the average number of concurrent players (number of players online at any time) was over 122,000 in December 2021 on Steam alone, but the highest figure remains August 2021, which stood at just 170,000.

Apex Legends may have dropped players in December, but it’s rising again.

Number of Apex Legends players vs other battle royale games

Other popular FPS games released recently also have their stats available. Battlefield 2042 has a peak of 47,367 in December and on average 1800 players in the last 30 days, according to Steam Charts.

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, which released as free-to-play on November 15, has a highlight of 147,782 players in December and about 5.277 players from the past month.

Unfortunately, stats for popular battle royale games that rival Apex Legends, such as Warzone and Fortnite are not available.
