iPhone Gets New ‘Test Alerts’ Toggle

Apple has included a button that allows iPhone users to receive test emergency notifications in iOS 16 beta and iOS 15.6.

Currently, the switch is only enabled for iPhones with a US-based carrier. By enabling it, the user tests emergency alerts as sent by the US government. By the way, if an Apple Watch is connected to the iPhone, the device will also receive and display it.

Interested parties can view and activate the new feature. It can be found in Settings, Notifications, and Government Alerts. Note that ‘test alerts’ is disabled by default and iPhone users will need to manually toggle it to get the alerts.

Earlier iOS versions enable test alerts by having a special profile or by entering a code. The new switch makes it easier for users to receive emergency alerts and enable them in the Settings app. Apple has updated the Apple Watch and iPhone support documents with more information.
