Japanese police stunned by series of burglaries at Pokemon card shops in Tokyo

Multiple burglaries involving a fortune in Pokemon Cards have left Tokyo police dumbfounded.

Throughout 2022, there were multiple Pokemon card crimes around the world, but it turns out Japan has a big problem with burglaries in the capital.

Several Tokyo businesses have been targeted for their expensive card collections, with “millions” stolen in recent months, according to a new Japan Times report.

The investigation left the police speechless, but it also appears that the criminals used the same technique in all cases.

Since last summer, many shops in Tokyo’s famous Akihabara district were targeted, but even shops in the outskirts of Machida that sold expensive cards were not off limits.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department sources say 60 cards worth ¥8.5 million ($64,500) were stolen from the store in early December.

Hundreds of thousands of Pokemon cards have been stolen.

Machida and other stores were all similarly hit, with the burglars breaking into the store in the dark once closed and then stealing the merchandise.

“I’ve never heard of such cases happening so sequentially,” said a senior investigative source.

So far, at least five burglaries have been confirmed in Tokyo alone since the summer of 2022, and it’s anyone’s guess how many stores in other cities are targeted.
