New year, new League of Legends season.
LoL Patch 13.1 is here to make Season 13 of League of Legends available to everyone, with the new ranked split starting and all pre-season changes finalized. Of course, everything is still a work in progress, but now it’s time to start the competitive climb.
The first 2023 update will include nerfs for powerhouses, tanks, and controversial cat Yuumi—which will be reworked soon enough—as well as big changes for Jax, with his promised mid-scope update ready to go live.

What changes in LoL patch 13.1?
League of Legends Season 13 begins, new ranked split
The big news of LoL patch 13.1, as the name implies, is the launch of Season 13 of League of Legends. After two months of preseason, all changes will be made official when the new ranked split begins.

This includes the top lane and jungle revisions, as well as the new ranked system that splits the year in half. Players are now tempted to grind all year round rather than reach their target rank and quit, with rewards now available every six months instead of 12.

Jax mid-scope update hits live servers
Jax was named next in line for a mid-scope update in late 2022, and Riot is taking no time to ship the changes to League of Legends.
The Grandmaster at Arms has remained relatively unchanged since 2009, with the Season 13 changes representing its biggest overhaul to date. It’s still on the “smaller side,” developer August ‘August’ Browning told players in November 2022, but it’ll still be quite a tweak to adapt to.

While his Q, Leap Strike, and E, Counter Strike, are undergoing minor changes, most of the changes are in his ultimate, Grandmaster’s Might. It has a new active where its lantern deals extra damage, and its three-hit passive becomes a two-hit for eight seconds.

Yuumi nerved again as Riot devises future plans
Riot has more Yuumi nerfs planned to kick off League of Legends season 13 in patch 13.1. She’s one of seven champions destined for nerfs, and the devs are also targeting some powerhouses and tanks after the preseason item overhaul that shook up the rankings.
A bigger rework of Yuumi has already been confirmed by Riot, but the controversial cat is still getting changes because “she’s still highly banned,” developer ‘Phlox’ told players on Jan. 3.

More changes are likely to come as the season gets underway and players begin to get back deep into the ranked rut.
