The October 4 update of Marvel Snap introduced some new features like the Variant Rarity System and also tried to rebalance the meta with further nerfs for Mister Negative and other powerful cards.

Just two weeks away from the last major balance pass, another Marvel Snap update has arrived to further shake things up ahead of the game’s full release on October 18. From a range of visual upgrades to added support for more than a dozen languages, much of the October 4 update helps prepare for launch.

While that’s not to say those enjoying early access in the beta still don’t have a lot of new changes to wrap their heads around. In the latest patch, a total of six maps and three locations have been modified, as a number of meta-defining choices have been modified.

Below is a full rundown of everything in the October 4 update for Marvel Snap.

New variant rarity system

As previously teased in the latest development roadmap, a new art variant system has now been introduced in Marvel Snap. As a result, 75% of the existing card art variants have been given the ‘Rare’ label. The remaining 25% falls into the “Super Rare” category instead.

To support this shift, Second Dinner developers have implemented 100+ new variants through the October Patch, featuring 75+ Rare and 25+ Super Rare cards for players now available in the game.

The ones at the Rare level are available for 700 gold, less than the previous price tag of 750. While those at Super Rare are now priced at 1,200 gold each.

Mister Negative nerfed again

Just a few weeks after Mister Negative’s overall stats improved, the divisive map has struck again. This time, two more Power have been knocked out, giving the card a 4 Cost -1 Power drop, while still providing the stat flip effect for all future cards played.

In addition, Magik, the popular 5 Cost 3 Power card that can expand any game, is also somewhat nerdy. Now Magik can no longer be played in turn 6. “Playing Magik to unexpectedly extend the game in the last turn is a very powerful and game-distorting effect,” the developers explained. “So we add this restriction to her to tone her down.

Four other maps have also been tweaked to some degree in the latest update, so check out the full patch notes below.

Bishop: [3/2] -> [3/1] Developer comments: Bishop sees a lot of play in different card games as a strong generalist card. We hope that by nerfing him a bit, other options will be more attractive for players to explore.

● Magic: [5/3] You cannot play this on turn 6. On Reveal: Change this location to Limbo.Developer Comments: Playing Magik to unexpectedly extend the game in the last turn is avery powerful and game distorting effect, so we add this limitation to her toweaken her.

● Mister Negative: [4/1] -> [4/-1]Developer Comments: We believe the Magik change will have a major impact on Mr. negative, but we also take some more power from him.

● Nakia: [3/1] On Reveal: Give the 2 leftmost cards in your hand +2 Power.Developer Comments: Nakia’s ability often feels too random to play effectively. We’ll have her buff the two leftmost cards in your hand so players can see theirplay around her.

Ronan: [5/3] Running: +2 Power for each card in your opponent’s hand.Developer comments: Ronan’s ability is very powerful at higher values, so we’re gaining weighthis cap in a bit to keep it from getting out of hand.

● Goose: [2/2] Continuous: No one can play 4, 5 or 6 cost cards in this location.

● Text updates only: ○ Armin Zola Ghost Rider Captain Marvel ○ Dracula ○ Hazmat ○ Ironheart

  • Developer comments: We have some updates to skills that impose game restrictions so they can check the adjusted cost of cards in hand instead of their original base cost. For example, if your Sentinel costs 4 because of Wave, you can play it at Crimson Cosmos.
    • Crimson Cosmos: (OLD – 1, 2, and 3 cost cards cannot be played here.) NEW – 1, 2, or 3 cost cards cannot be played here.
