Towson, Maryland Apple Store employees recently made history by voting to form a union in hopes of higher pay and better working conditions.

CNBC reported that Apple Store employees voted to join the Machinists Union, by 65 votes to 33.

About 110 employees are eligible to vote and have to do so until Saturday evening. This came even after Apple tried to placate its store employees by making several changes.

The votes will be verified by the National Labor Relations Board before negotiations can begin between the union and the Cupertino-based company.

Apple People and Retail Head Deirdre O’Brien said employees have the right to join a union, as well as not to join a union. However, the Apple executive said the company wanted a direct, open and collaborative commitment, and that this could change as a result of unionized collective bargaining.
