Modern Warfare 2 players are obsessed with the idea of a classic MW2 audio package, using audio cues, gunfire, and voice lines from the 2009 title, after a merged gameplay clip brought them together and exploded on social media.

With the Modern Warfare 2 beta behind us, one that has seen more players jump in than ever before, the community is looking forward to the full release on October 28th. While Infinity Ward’s developers have already committed to some critical gameplay changes, including audio system tweaks, one particular request has caught the attention of millions online.

A simple gameplay clip from the recent multiplayer beta has gone viral for one reason: it features audio from the original Modern Warfare 2. From classic weapon sounds to audio cues for killstreaks, it all fits perfectly with the 2022 game in motion.

Naturally hitting a nostalgic chord for thousands around the world, players are now encouraging developers to release a throwback DLC audio pack to recapture the essence of the original.

Immediately loading into a round of Domination, the clip hits you with the original announcer from 2009. From then on, it’s a well-known adrenaline rush as kills are assured, streaks come into play and goals are recorded.

Weapons sound just like in the original multiplayer hit. Killstreaks even pop overhead with the exact same haunting sounds from the iconic CoD title. There’s nothing quite like hearing that “friendly AC130 in the air” phrase in the middle of a match.

Originally curated by CoD YouTuber ‘Ghosts619’, snippets of the full video quickly went viral on both Reddit and Twitter with countless players “ready to hand over money” for a DLC audio pack featuring these classic sounds.

“This is unbelievable,” added a post on Reddit. “Infinity Ward should use this idea and release a classic Modern Warfare 2” [2009] Sound Pack for Modern Warfare 2 [2022].”

“I’d throw money at that so soon,” another player chimed in. “Maybe not the gun sound, but everything before everything else.”

While it’s clearly nothing more than a utopia for now, there’s a precedent for DLC audio packs in the series. After all, we saw that Snoop Dogg got his own voice pack in 2013’s CoD Ghosts, so it’s not entirely out of the question.

For now, though, we’ll have to make do with the modern sound design and announcements when Modern Warfare 2 is fully released on October 28.
