In a Twitter post, MultiVersus developers announced the season 1 delay alongside Morty’s release date, causing a slight lull in content for the burgeoning fighting game.
MultiVersus gained tremendous momentum in the month of July after the release of the open beta. The developers have been implementing balance patch updates and character releases at a rapid pace, improving the state of play while also creating some promise for the game’s future.
But the momentum is slowing down a bit now. As announced in an official Twitter post, MultiVersus is postponing the first official season along with new character Morty from Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty series.
The official Twitter account stated, “We know this may be disappointing for some,” but continued to reassure players that “we are committed to delivering new and exciting content.”
Since the open beta release, there have already been two balance patches and a character release. That’s why the development team probably needs the extra time to ensure a high-quality experience for Season 1, including preparing for even more character releases.
For those who don’t know, Morty is certainly not the only character to be cast in Season 1. Leaks show evidence of Rick’s release alongside other characters, such as Eleven from Stranger Things, though there’s no guarantee they’ll all arrive at the same time.
The general popularity of MultiVersus caught many by surprise, with the quality of the fighting game being exceptionally high for a free-to-play cross-platform title. While this delay will inevitably disappoint some players, you can expect updates in the very near future.
Multiversus let us know as soon as possible. In their words, “There is no official release date, but expect an update in the very near future. We look forward to revealing Season 1 soon.”
