Many players are not satisfied with the girlfriend story in NBA 2K23’s MyCareer mode, mainly because most of them just want to play basketball.
2K Games and developer Visual Concepts have expanded MyCareer for NBA 2K23 in some notable ways. First, the companies enlisted rapper J. Cole for what Visual Concepts described as the most in-depth career mode yet.
But while the story weighs a little more, some features got on the sidelines for this year’s edition. The mode picks up right away when the player-created character joins an NBA team, meaning concept-related content didn’t make the cut.
Other facets of the new and improved experience are making players feel depressed about the latest version of MyCareer as well.
NBA 2K23 players aren’t fans of MyCareer’s girlfriend’s storyline
Reddit user Jared524 recently shared a screenshot of a goal they need to achieve for the MyCareer mode in NBA 2K23. The message tells the player about a date they have to attend with their girlfriend, Milia, at City View Restaurant.
Jared524’s caption on the post makes it clear that he’s not all that excited about being forced to juggle an in-game romance. “I just wanna hoop, man,” he wrote.
Others joined in to say that they too hate the relationship drama. “Spoiler alert: You have to see a virtual couple arguing over dinner to play an NBA game,” wrote grizfan01.
Several players added that they skip the girlfriend-focused cutscenes in NBA 2K23, with Redditor GoldieMickens noting that REC has taken more time so far.
The 2,000-plus votes on Jared524’s original post suggest that some of the other NBA 2K stalwarts aren’t enjoying the MyCareer quests either. The jury is out on whether opinions will change over time.
NBA 2K23 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
