The next MultiVersus phase may have just been teased by the developers on Twitter, as new artwork shows Rick stepping through a portal to the world of Steven Universe alongside Garnet. Only this new location has yet to appear in the game.
When MultiVersus fully launched on July 19, it did so with a total of seven different maps (stages). From the Batcave to Scooby’s Haunted Mansion, most of these stages followed, as you’d expect, iconic locations from the Warner Bros. catalog.
Since launch, we’ve seen significant content drops, major balance updates, and a number of new heroes all making an impact. Although we have yet to see another phase join the rotation of the game. But if an October 3 teaser has anything to offer, that could finally change in the very near future.
A new artwork made the rounds on the official MultiVersus social channels, featuring Rick and Morty’s Rick without his grandson in the picture. Instead, it was Steven Universe’s Garnet who accompanied Rick as the two stepped through a portal into uncharted territory.
Though the image has been intentionally cropped to give just a subtle hint of their whereabouts, it appears to be none other than Steven Universe’s Pink Diamond garden. Bright pink pillars can be seen on either side, with branches wrapping around them and blooming pink flowers everywhere.
That Rick and Garnet are shown in this particular area certainly raises eyebrows. After all, we’ve yet to see this garden in MultiVersus, and the developers never mentioned it before either. So given this first look, we could very well be staring at the next phase coming to the popular fighting game soon.
Obviously, we won’t know for sure until things are confirmed. In the end, this can be nothing more than a work of art without a second thought being placed in the background. But given the way the MultiVersus crew likes to tease its community with local content, it’s a safe bet that Steven Universe is getting a new phase in the game.
As for when another stage may arrive in MultiVersus, it’s anyone’s guess for now. But with Season 1 almost halfway through, launching Season 2 later this year could be a safe bet. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
