In Skull & Bones, players can customize their ship in great detail, including sail designs, crew appearance and onboard weapons.

Skull & Bones creative director Elizabeth Pellen guided fans through some of the customization aspects they can expect to see in the full game.

Pellen noted that players can “loot and unlock a wide variety of vanity sets” that can be mixed and matched to fully personalize the look of a pirate captain and ship.

In addition, players will be able to fully customize their crew’s appearance, although the outfits will be completely changed as a set and not on an individual basis, at least for now.

Next, Pellen talked about weapon customization, focusing on the different types of cannons players can attach to their ships.

For example, the Long Gun excels at firing long range shots, while the Carronade has a fast reload speed with less damage. Each weapon has strengths and weaknesses that players should consider.

Next, Pellen discussed fortress raids, which will reward players with large bounties depending on how many waves of enemy ships they can defeat.

When raiding fortresses, the enemy fortress will send out a signal flair, calling in enemy reinforcements. Players will have to weigh the risk and reward of attacking fortresses, as continuous enemy reinforcements are likely to be quite a challenge.

The full trailer takes a closer look at other aspects of ship customization, but it looks like players will have a lot of freedom when it comes to designing their ideal pirate ship in Skull & Bones.
