Nintendo could be very close to unveiling a remaster for one of the most iconic video games of all time: GoldenEye 007 – breathing new life into the title for a whole new generation.
There is no doubt that GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64 is one of the pillars of modern gaming in the annals of video game history. With a huge influence on FPS titles, it is undeniably a cornerstone of the genre to this day.
Now we could be closer than ever to a true remaster of the original 1997 release, if new reports and claims about an upcoming Nintendo Direct add up.
GoldenEye 007 Remaster Coming Soon?
Before the Xbox Games Showcase on June 12, there were numerous rumors that we would see a remastered GoldenEye reveal during the event. Unfortunately, the event took place and there was no announcement of the sort to be found, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen soon.
According to several sources on Twitter, there is “very strong evidence” to suggest a Nintendo Direct will take place at the end of June. Now, if it happens, would be the perfect time to announce a GoldenEye 007 remaster.
The information is accurate. The broadcast window is June 28 or 29 – this may depend on the time zone/regional location.
It was never planned for the next week. It’s been scheduled for the end of June for many, many weeks. This is not due to a delay.

Now we need to clarify that nothing is set in stone yet – neither for a Nintendo Direct or a GoldenEye 007 remaster. However, the combination of previous leaks about an update to the N64 title and an all-but-confirmed Direct is too juicy to look past.
Only time will tell if this all turns out to be true or not, but a real remaster for GoldenEye 007 could indeed break the internet if announced, especially among the 90s kids on Twitter.
