There are rumors that the GeForce RTX 3060 will be offered in 8 GB, but no one had indicated that this SKU would get a faster memory type. We recently reported that a UK retailer is getting ready to sell the RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition with GDDR6X memory, confirming previous rumors.
If this listing for “Lenovo RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6X” from a Slovakian reseller is correct, it means the RTX 3060 non-Ti would follow suit with faster memory.
A memory improvement over the GDDR6X standard would most likely result in two things: increased memory speed and bandwidth, but also higher TDP. However, none of these features appear to be included in the Slovak retailer’s stated specifications. The boost clock remains at 1.78 GHz and the maximum power consumption seems to be the same at 170W.
A simple check of the product key shows it is compatible with the Lenovo RTX 3060 GDDR6 SKU. As a result, one could conclude that this is just a seller’s fault or a memory swap on an existing part. Based on recent rumors, both options are equally plausible.
