A Pokemon Go player has discovered a possible trick to improve the catch rates of the elusive Galarian birds. However, it takes a large number of Pokeballs.

Pokemon Go players have been on a journey in recent months to capture the elusive Galarian Legendary Bird trio. The popular Pokemon are only available to catch with the new Daily Adventure Incense and have a painfully high flight rate in addition to a woefully low catch rate.

Fans have shared several stories, with some praising the rare and difficult encounters. Others, however, are starting to lose patience with the new mechanic, looking for ways to increase the spawn speed or increase the chance of a catch.

While it has been difficult to test potential problems or workarounds, a few savvy players have taken to social media and shared theories that could help others score their legendary catch. Unfortunately, the data has left many players unsure about the true usefulness of these methods.

Pokemon Go players toss Pokeballs for a better catch

In a post shared by user JASHYZGO on the r/pokemongo Reddit board, the Pokemon Go player demonstrates a potential catch-enhancing “hack” that purposely used failed throws to trigger the “pity catch” bonus seen at encounters with Legendary Raid boss.

In the video, the player deliberately throws Ultra Balls to the ground while a Galarian Zapdos slides across the screen in front of them. After dropping several balls, the player feeds the Legendary Bird a Golden Razz Berry before tossing a few more balls on the ground. Finally, they get a good spin on the Ultra Ball in their hand, wait for the perfect moment and score an “excellent” curve throw.

The Pokeball, which only shakes for a few moments, provides the catch, indicating a potentially useful boost at the cost of about 20 Ultra Balls.

However, other players aren’t so sure about the method, with one user saying, “I want to leave this out because it’s possible it actually works, but it still requires a lot of research. We haven’t seen any evidence to suggest that wild Legendaries get the same compassionate catch bonus as raid encounters. Please take this message with a huge rock of salt.” and another who added: “With the main series games, for a few years I believed that spamming “A” (some would say down or B or whatever) would increase the catch rate. There was also no stable behind the truck.”

Another user breaks down the concept saying “So the idea is to waste 20 balls, and then the catch rate can increase because Legendaries who have raid encounters increase their catch speed at a certain number of balls…hmmm. Idk if that would apply to this wild, does anyone know if it works the same for GBL Legendary encounters?”

While it is possible for this method to trigger an unintended bonus, more data will need to be collected from a larger number of players to really know if it is effective. However, because the encounters are so rare, some Pokemon Go players will likely find the loss of a few dozen Pokeballs events the chance for better catches – whether backed up by data or not.
