Something related to Silent Hill shuffles toward us through the darkness. Here’s everything we know about our next trip to gaming’s most haunted city.
Silent Hill helped shape the horror genre and introduce gamers to a whole new world of fear and trepidation. Between the ability to convey the most disturbing mood and a plethora of twisted and terrifying enemies, the early games gripped players from the get-go.
As the name of the later entries changed, so did the approach to gameplay. Silent Hill: Homecoming and Silent Hill: Downpour tried their best to change the formula, but alienated longtime fans of the game. As a result, we haven’t had a new Silent Hill title in ten years.
The canceled PT/Silent Hills project looked like it would be curtains for the franchise, but thanks to the recent Silent Hill Transmission showcase event, it looks like the series isn’t gone for good after all.

Silent Hill Transmission Announcements
Rumors of a new Silent Hill game started on May 13, 2022, when a trusted game leaker named Dusk Golem revealed a ton of information about a possible new Silent Hill project, including several photos.
Now Konami has revealed a bunch of new Silent Hill related projects during the Silent Hill Transmission which aired on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 2pm PDT / 5pm EST / 10pm BST.
It seems there was in fact a good deal of truth in the Dusk Golem leaks, as Silent Hill Transmission revealed a Silent Hill 2 remake as a console exclusive on PS5, among other things. Here are all the announcements from the Silent Hill Transmission event.
Silent Hill: Ascension, Silent Hill 2 Remake and New Movie
The Silent Hill Transmission showcase opened with a trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remakewhich will be developed by Bloober Team.
Fans of horror games probably know Bloober Team as the studio behind titles like Layers of Fear, Blair Witch and The Medium from 2021.
Silent Hill 2 is a remake developed by Bloober Team, coming out on PS5 and PC.
The presentation also confirmed that Silent Hill 2’s original Concept Artist Masahiro Ito will return to work on the Silent Hill 2 remake, as leaked by Dusk Golem. Additionally, composer Akira Yamaoka will return to compose the remake’s soundtrack.
As it turns out, Silent Hill: Ascension is not a new game in the Silent Hill series, but is a “live real-time interactive series” where “millions of fans” will determine the outcome of the story.
The project is led by interactive media company Genvid in partnership with Bad Robot Games, Behavior Interactive and DJ2 Entertainment. Needless to say, there is a lot of talent behind this project, but what it will look like still remains a mystery.
Silent Hill: Ascension will be a real-time interactive experience where the audience shapes the outcome of the story.
The showcase event also confirmed that there is indeed another Silent Hill movie in the works, as director Christophe Gans teased earlier this year.
The movie is called Return to Silent Hill and is apparently “a new Silent Hill movie that is completely independent of the two previous movies that were made and respects the way Silent Hill has evolved,” Gans said.
There have been two Silent Hill movies before, both starring Sean Bean. These have loosely modified the stories from the original Silent Hill and SH3, while adding elements from SH2, such as the monster Pyramid Head.
While not much is known about Return to Silent Hill at the time of writing, as the project is still in its early stages of development, it will certainly be interesting to see how Gans adapts Silent Hill to the modern age.
Finally, the Transmission event revealed two brand new Silent Hill games in the works. The first is Silent Hill Townfallwhich is being developed by No Code and Annapurna Interactive.
The teaser trailer contained a cryptic message from an old radio broadcast, with static scenes that are hard to distinguish.
Silent Hill Townfall is a new Silent Hill game developed by No Code and Annapurna Interactive.
Unfortunately, not much is known about the game aside from the brief teaser trailer that revealed the game’s logo and a promise that more will be shown sometime next year.
The showcase ended with a teaser trailer for Silent Hill for, developed by NeoBards Entertainment. While details have been scarce on this latest announcement, it appears that this game will be set in Japan rather than America.
The heart-pounding trailer followed a young Japanese student walking through a desolate Japanese town slowly being consumed by some sort of red, viny plant.
The Silent Hill f trailer showed a Japanese schoolgirl walking through a deserted city overgrown with deadly flowering vines.
Is Hideo Kojima involved with Silent Hill?
Unfortunately for fans looking forward to a Konami and Hideo Kojima reunion, it looks like it’s not in the cards for the foreseeable future, as Kojima was nowhere to be found during the Silent Hill Transmission showcase.
Konami has been tight-lipped about the Silent Hill series since the cancellation of Silent Hills of which PT was a playable teaser. The franchise was stuck in Hideo Kojima’s controversial exit from the company, as Silent Hills was the entry he worked on with actor Norman Reedus before his departure.
This has led Konami to scrap Silent Hills and go back to the drawing board for the franchise. However, it will be interesting to see if any of Silent Hills Hideo Kojima’s ideas make it into future entries.
On May 17, 2022, Brazilian actress Fadile Waked posted on her Instagram story commenting on rumors of her involvement in the Silent Hill project: “Wowww. I keep getting messages and my photos have been leaked everywhere! I am now curious about the new Silent Hill.”
In the photos she references (courtesy of Fcreews), one of her is next to a person who resembles the figure of Hideo Kojima.
However, any rumors about Hideo Kojima’s involvement with the Silent Hill series or Konami itself should be taken with a huge spoonful of salt. The legendary developer now runs his own studio, independent of Konami, and even teases his own projects.
While Silent Hill’s future isn’t concrete, we don’t do much about plenty of other upcoming video games:
