Many Overwatch 2 players are unable to access content from OW1, and some gamers are even reporting that they have lost all skins and characters from the original game.
Overwatch 2 just went live, with the transition to the sequel not going as smoothly as developer Blizzard may have hoped for. Players in particular are coming out in droves to report issues with past content not transferring.
Essentially, players describe the loss of skins, characters, other cosmetics, and in-game currency. These issues are reported on the Overwatch forums and on platforms such as Reddit and Twitter.
Things like weapon skins, unlocked characters and more have all been reported lost by players, and at this point there is no way to recover the lost data and progress. The official Blizzard Customer Support Twitter Page posted that they are aware of the bug and issue, but players are still extremely disappointed and concerned about the development.
For now, this means those affected by the issue won’t be able to play Overwatch 2 with a vast majority of heroes at their disposal. For some, that means they won’t be allowed to play their main characters or their most trusted characters until a fix is implemented.
Other notable bugs plaguing the game at launch include server connectivity issues and issues with Overwatch players merging their PC and console accounts. And while Blizzard is aware of these issues, they have yet to come out and confirm when and how they will be addressed.
Overwatch was first released in 2016, with the game being praised by fans and critics alike – even being voted Game of the Year by many. However, the game’s popularity has declined in recent years – the rise of other games like Valorant being a factor in Overwatch’s demise.
However, the release of Overwatch 2 could be a way for developer Blizzard to revive the franchise, assuming they fix these issues around players having access to old skins and characters quickly.
