This GTA 5 Easter egg may have plagued GTA 6 for the past decade

. Last updated: 02 Aug 2022

If recent reports are correct, and the highly anticipated GTA 6 revolves around a Bonnie and Clyde inspired story, there’s a chance Rockstar Games has been teasing it in GTA 5 all along.

Beyond confirming that GTA 6 is indeed in active development, Rockstar has said virtually nothing about the franchise’s future in recent years. That doesn’t stop Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier from revealing early details about the game’s setting and protagonists, though.

According to insider sources, GTA 6 revolves around two bank robbers, one of whom makes history as the first female protagonist in the now 25-year-old series. Together they seem to go after Bonnie and Clyde.

While it’s still early days and plans could certainly change during development, fans are now debating whether Rockstar has been teasing this story for nearly a decade. If an Easter egg in GTA 5 is more than a coincidence, there’s a chance that GTA 6 has been loosely mapped for quite some time.

Could this have been a GTA 6 teaser all along?

When GTA 5 hit store shelves in 2013, it did with a certain poster for a musical called “Vice.” At a glance, this ad is nothing special in Los Santos, a satirical recreation of Los Angeles filled with over-the-top movie billboards and fast food promotions.

While we take a closer look, now with Bloomberg’s Bonnie and Clyde information fresh in mind, this poster may very well be teasing the next GTA.

Two silhouettes are visible, apparently a man and a woman, with blurred police cars in the background. It’s of course a chore to say for sure that it’s a GTA 6 easter egg, but fans are already speculating wildly.

Rockstar Games

As far as we know, more GTA 6 Easter eggs have been hidden in plain sight since the launch of GTA 5.

Ideas for GTA 6 were supposedly being thrown around as early as 2012, prior to the release of GTA 5, according to Rockstar insider Tez2. If so, that leaves a small window open for a Bonnie and Clyde-esque teaser to make its way to the original release.

“Honestly, I believe it,” one fan commented on Reddit. “A man holding a woman with police in the background, while the poster is called Vice, is no coincidence to me.”

However, not everyone is convinced. Conflicting reports have since suggested that GTA 6 originally had four playable protagonists. So Rockstar’s earliest plans may not have matched this poster seen in GTA 5.

Since we may still be years away from the upcoming sequel, we’ll have to wait and see how things play out. But if the latest statements are true, there’s every chance Rockstar hid this GTA 6 Easter egg in GTA 5 nearly a decade ago.
